‘Uncubed’ Startup Job Fair Attracts 600 Applicants

Pulsating music, a ping-pong table, and a barista serving up fresh whipped coffee, were just some of the perks that job-seekers enjoyed at Uncubed, a fun and friendly job fair for those looking to work at a startup company.

Launched in 2012, Uncubed wants to “deconstruct the 9-5 one cubicle at a time.” Those looking to hire at the Chicago event included more than three-dozen emerging companies as well as bootstrapped startups.

Carson Conant of MediaFly, Kris Hammond of Narrative Science, Paul Lee of Lightbank, Michael McGee of The Starter League, George Orr of kCura, Harper Reed of Obama for America, Brittany Tarvin of FadingRed, and Desiree Vargas Wrigley of Give Forward gave job advice and shared founders’ stories. The panels were followed by a paper napkin pitch and a spellcheck spelling-bee contest. In keeping with the River East Arts venue, the entire event was backdropped with a live art show.

Uncubed, produced by Wakefield of New York City, has held job fairs in five cities. This event was the second go-round in Chicago. The next Uncubed event will be held on May 17, 2013, in New York City. ❒
